26 - Second Grade Community Day!
Students may dress down and pack lunches. Students are able to dress
down in athletic attire. We will play community-building
games as a whole second grade.
Room Parent/Grade Parent Help: Provide water bottles and popsicles
(the same type for each class)
October-May (ongoing) - We welcome classroom volunteers to come in to speak about holidays/traditions celebrated throughout the year. Parents will speak and also bring in objects or pictures and or play a game or activity that represents their tradition.

Room Parent Help: 3 - 4
parents per class will be needed to help groups of students rotate through
hands-on activities with Ohio Native American Artifacts. This will be set up in the 2nd
grade classrooms.
October, Most likely the week of 10/20- Campfire Stories – This will be a dress down day for second graders. We will head into the CA woods to hear the Lower School Librarians tell stories while enjoying s’mores. Students will be escorting their Pre-K buddies to this event.

Room Parent Help: A number
of volunteer will be needed to send in party contributions, and assist children
with putting on costumes. The party
generally begins at 2:00 with costume changes beginning around 1:40. A similar snack and activity should be planned
between all 4 classes. The parade begins at 2:30.
November 7 - Read In – Students will spend the day dropping everything to read. Blankets or sleeping bags may be brought in, as well as lots of reading material.

Room Parent Help: Help
classroom teachers organize donations and communication to families. Help coordinate 2-3 volunteers for shopping
in theater lobby when Clothing Drive donations are organized.

This takes place during LS Assembly time - 8:15 - 8:45. Parents are
welcome to attend.

Room Parent Help: Parents
are needed to assist classes wrapping and organizing contributions for the
sponsored families.

25 - Native American Culmination Luncheon and Rotations
Room Parent Help: In the
morning, parents will help escort students to various activities run by
co-curricular teachers. Volunteers will be needed to make authentic Native
American dishes to be shared among the entire second grade. This takes place
the Tuesday before Thanksgiving break begins. No limit on the amount of
volunteers. Room Moms and Grade Mom should help coordinate what dishes will be
served so there is a wide array of choices.

TBA - (usually the first week in December) – Ohio Historical Society Field Trip
to Ohio Village and Museum

volunteers to chaperone this trip.

6 – Read In – Students will spend the day dropping everything to read. Blankets or sleeping bags may be brought in,
as well as lots of reading material.

12 (Most likely date) - Valentine’s Party - 2:00 – 3:00
Room Parent Help: Parent
volunteers plan and conduct the party complete with a craft. The students will
have a homework assignment that requires them to make their Valentine box at
home and to create cards for their classmates and Pre-K buddies. A similar
snack and activity/craft should be planned between all 4 classes.

TBA – (usually the day of the Valentine’s Parties) - Jump Rope for Heart –
Students will jump rope at a designated time to honor those supported by the
American Heart Association. Students may dress down in athletic wear and bring
a water bottle.

tour the state float projects made by students.

of Accomplishments- Parents come to school on one of the above dates to celebrate
the accomplishments of their second grader(s).
A potluck breakfast will be available.
Room Parent/Grade Parent Help: Coordination of food and supplies for the
breakfast. Request volunteers for set up
and clean up.
May 26
- Community Day – The whole second grade plays community-building games and
celebrates the year together. We dress
down and enjoy a pizza lunch outside, weather permitting.

- No School - Memorial Day
May 29 -
Last Day of School – Closing Program - 8:30-9:00 – Students are dismissed from
the classrooms after the program.
